RETTER Bio-Natur-Resort is a multi-award-winning, family-run eco-resort nestled in the green hills of the Pöllau Valley Nature Park in Styria. For over 30 years, the Retter family has pioneered sustainable hospitality – their on-site organic farm has been certified organic since 1992, and the entire kitchen for two decades. The resort is renowned as a climate-neutral destination, achieving an exceptional 97% compliance in the rigorous Green Globe audit. A biomass heating system and green electricity power its buildings, cutting CO₂ emissions by 1 million kg per year, and any remaining footprint is fully offset, making Retter one of Austria’s few carbon-neutral hotels. Guests here experience luxury in harmony with nature – the hotel’s 116 rooms and seminar facilities are designed as a low-energy building, with features like automatic window sensors and CO₂-regulated ventilation to conserve energy. Every aspect of operations reflects a deep eco-ethos. The resort’s Retter BioGut organic farm and production house adjacent to the hotel complete a closed-loop food cycle: fruits from 4 hectares of orchards are pressed into juices and distilled into spirits, jams, and even house-made ice cream, while 100% of the hotel’s daily bread and pastries are baked on-site. The kitchen commits to 100% organic, regional cuisine, sourcing ingredients within a 35 km radius and utilizing whole animals from humane organic farms. Vegetarian and vegan guests are indulged with creative plant-based menus, and even the breakfast and coffee breaks feature organic delights. Guests can tour the BioGut facility and attend courses on sustainable living, immersing in Retter’s mission to educate and inspire. The wellness spa and seminar center further showcase sustainable innovation – from solar-heated pools to natural cosmetics in the spa. Ten electric car charging stations on-site encourage green mobility, and the hotel offers two electric convertible cars for eco-friendly explorations of local attractions. Retter’s 120 staff, mostly from the surrounding region, live and breathe the company’s green philosophy, even engaging in weekly guided sustainability tours for guests. Deeply rooted in its community and landscape, the resort sits amid organic orchards and flower meadows, with panoramic terraces overlooking the nature park’s gentle mountains. This tranquil setting allows guests to reconnect with nature – whether strolling through orchard trails or watching butterflies in the wildflower garden. Founded by Ulli and Hermann Retter, the resort has grown into a role model for sustainable tourism in Europe. It holds both the Austrian Eco-label and Green Globe certification as testament to its high standards. Yet, beyond awards, what makes RETTER special is its warm, holistic approach: you arrive as a guest and depart feeling like family – enriched by healthy gourmet cuisine, “farm-to-table” experiences, yoga classes on the lawn, and an understanding that a hotel can truly cherish the earth. By combining heartfelt hospitality with environmental stewardship, RETTER Bio-Natur-Resort invites you to enjoy a restorative, luxurious stay that also positively impacts local people and planet.
