Luxury treehouse pods in a fjordside pine forest – a childhood dream turned sustainable reality.

Woodnest Treehouse offers an unforgettable chance to sleep amid the treetops of a Norwegian forest in a cozy, design-forward pod. Perched 5–6 meters above the ground and fastened firmly to living pine trunks, each Woodnest treehouse looks like a wooden pinecone clinging to the hillside overlooking Hardangerfjord. With only four units on site, Woodnest provides an exclusive and tranquil escape that is both intimate and environmentally conscious. Designed by architects Helen & Hard, the 15m² treetop cabins are a marvel of sustainable craftsmanship: built from locally sourced timber and clad in untreated shingles, they blend into the canopy and will weather to a silver-grey, much like the surrounding bark. Construction was done by hand (no heavy machinery) to protect the landscape, and a single steel collar around the trunk supports each cabin without harming the tree’s growth. Inside, the treehouses are surprisingly luxurious given their petite size. Each features a sleek Scandinavian interior with warm oak paneling and panoramic windows that offer jaw-dropping views of the fjord and mountains beyond. Clever space-saving design provides a lounge nook, a petite kitchenette, and a full bathroom with hot shower and flushing toilet (yes, even in a treehouse!). In-floor heating keeps guests cozy year-round. At night, you can snuggle in the built-in queen bed beneath a glass skylight and stargaze through the treetop canopy – if you’re lucky, you might even catch the Northern Lights from bed. The experience at Woodnest is deliberately off-grid in spirit: guests hike 20–30 minutes through the forest to reach their treehouse from the parking area, luggage in tow (a rewarding trek that makes your arrival feel like a true adventure). There’s no restaurant on site – instead, guests bring their own groceries or opt for a delivered gourmet basket of local delicacies, such as cured ham, artisanal cheese, fresh bread and apple cider from Hardanger farms. With a two-night stay recommended, you have time to slow down and embrace the rhythms of nature. Spend your days wandering mossy trails, bird-watching from your private deck, or venturing to the nearby town of Odda for kayaking or a glacier hike. Woodnest’s owners emphasize sustainability and thoughtful luxury at every turn. Linens and towels are organic cotton, bath products are eco-friendly, and the mini-fridge is pre-stocked with some organic treats. Housekeeping is minimized during your stay to reduce impact (and to enhance privacy – it’s just you and the squirrels up here!). Despite being nearly invisible from the fjord below, the treehouses have fiber-optic Wi-Fi and solar-powered accent lighting – a marriage of modern convenience with minimal footprint. Woodnest is about reconnection: to nature, to your inner childlike wonder, and even to loved ones (with no TV or distractions, guests often spend evenings simply talking by lamplight or playing board games provided in the cabin). It’s sustainable travel at its dreamiest – a place where you can literally feel the tree gently sway and wake up inspired by the sunrise filtering through the forest. Few experiences are as magical or as restorative as a night in these exquisite nests in the woods.
