Le Chalet d’en Hô is a 3-star sustainable mountain hotel in the Hautes-Alpes, nestled at 1,600 meters in the hamlet of Névache. With only 14 rooms, the chalet feels more like a warm, welcoming mountain home than a traditional ski resort. Surrounded by dramatic peaks in the Clarée Valley, it combines alpine charm with a deep respect for the environment.
The chalet proudly carries both the European Ecolabel and the Green Key certification, reflecting the owners’ long-standing commitment to eco-friendly hospitality. Sustainability is integrated into daily operations: organic waste is composted to nourish the vegetable patch, plastic straws and single-use portions have been eliminated, and biodegradable cleaning products like white vinegar keep the spaces fresh without polluting local waterways.
Rainwater is collected and used to fill the spa’s hot tub, which is heated efficiently to conserve resources. Lighting throughout the chalet is 100% LED, and heating is supplied by a high-efficiency wood-pellet furnace, ensuring guests stay cozy while minimizing carbon emissions.
Each guest room features locally crafted wooden furniture, thick duvets, and a warm, rustic style. Towels and linens are replaced every other day instead of daily, helping to conserve water. The result is an atmosphere that is both environmentally conscious and deeply comfortable, offering guests a true eco-chalet experience in the French Alps.
Dining at Le Chalet d’en Hô is hearty, creative, and rooted in Alpine traditions. The restaurant highlights local cheeses, free-range meats from nearby valleys, and organic vegetables, while breakfast features homemade jams, mountain honey, and fresh bread from the village bakery. Chef Eddy reinvents traditional mountain recipes with flair and happily accommodates vegetarians, embodying the chalet’s philosophy of caring equally for guests and the planet.
After a day on the slopes or trails, guests can relax in the small spa, complete with a sauna and a wood-fired outdoor hot tub overlooking pine forests. This blend of comfort and nature offers the perfect way to unwind while taking in the valley’s pure mountain air.
The chalet is run by Agnès, Didier, and Valérie, three former city-dwellers who left urban life over 20 years ago to realize their mountain dream. Their passion for the land and community is infectious: they guide guests to hidden trails, share local history by the fire, and create an atmosphere that feels like staying with old friends.
Evenings are unpretentious and cozy, with guests gathering in the lounge to play board games or exchange stories by oil lamp. This sense of conviviality, combined with sustainable practices, defines the chalet’s philosophy of “barefoot luxury” — simple, eco-conscious comfort in one of France’s most pristine valleys.
At Le Chalet d’en Hô, sustainability doesn’t come at the cost of comfort. From compost-fed gardens to hearty local meals and starlit soaks in a wood-fired hot tub, every detail reflects a commitment to preserving the Clarée Valley’s natural beauty. Here, the alpine air feels fresher and the stars brighter — proof that authentic hospitality and environmental care can go hand in hand.
